오늘날 DTV를 중심으로 많은 양의 콘텐트가 늘어나고 있고, 이러한 상황 속에서 사용자가 복잡한 정보 속에서 길을 잃고 혼란스러워 하는 경우를 흔히 볼 수 있다. 이처럼 정보 양이 늘어나고 있는 추세 속에서, DTV 내비게이션에 큰 영향을 미치는 입력 방식에 대한 새로운 고민이 필요하다 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 상황을 인지하고, 국내를 중심으로 DTV의 정보 구조와 입력 방식을 조사하여 정리 해 보고, 현재의 내비게이션의 상황과 문제점을 살펴보았다. 그 와중, 칼라 키를 활용한 내비게이션 향상성에 대한 아이디어를 떠올려, 새로운 디자인 방법을 제안하고, 실증 연구를 진행 하게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 칼라 키를 활용한 내비게이션과 기존에 일반적으로 쓰이고 있는 4방향키와 OK키만을 이용한 입력 방법을 플래시로 프로토타이핑(prototyping)화 하여, 60명의 사용자에게 경험하게 한 후, 입력 횟수의 감소와 사용의 용이성을 측정하는 설문을 실시하여 통계 분석 도구를 이용하여 분석 하였다. 그 결과, 칼라 키를 활용한 내비게이션이 기존의 방법 보다 입력 횟수를 줄이는데 (Quick and simple) 효과적임을 알 수 있었고, 사용의 용이성(Use of ease)도 효과적이었다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Due to increasing features and increasing information in Digital TV, today`s users are often found lost in the DTV system. In the view of current situation, attempts to finding design solutions that involve input device can be crucial. Being aware of this situation, I have examined the information structure and input device, focusing on domestic DTV service. After inspecting and finding the limits of current system, I proposed a idea that uses color keys on remote controller that can possibly improve the usability of navigation in DTV. By making two prototypes of the newly suggested design and the current design system, and then conducting a survey for 60 people, I have measured the effect of reduction on number of inputs (quick and simple use) and the ease of use of the newly proposed design using SPSS PASW Statistics 18. As a result, the newly proposed design showed significance in reducing the number of inputs and the ease of use hence enhancing the usability of navigation.
