그림자 예술은 많은 예술작품 표현의 한 매체로서 직접적으로 사용되어지고 있으며 관람자에게 심리와 정신적, 감성을 불러일으킨다. 본 논문에서는 그림자의 예술적 의미를 고찰하고자 그림자의 특징인 유희성, 단순성, 시간성을 분석하여 그림자가 조형요소로서 예술적 감성을 표현하고 있음을 작품사례를 통해 제시하였으며, 일상에서 마주하는 그림자 그 자체보다 회화, 설치, 미디어아트 등 복합적인 예술분야에서 그림자의표현적 방법과 개념을 어떻게 표현하는지를 위주로 연구하였다. 본 논문에서는 그림자예술의 특징인 유희성과 단순성, 시간성을 프로젝션 매핑의 방법을 활용하여 그림자가 움직이는 것을 대상으로 사례분석 하였다. 이를 위하여 프로젝션 매핑의 원리를 고찰하고, 기존 비디오 작품과 프로젝션 매핑을 이용한 작품의 차이점을 사례작품 중심으로 제시하였으며, 프로젝션 매핑에서의 그림자 표현에 대해 분석하였다. 그 결과 프로젝션 매핑을 활용하여 평면적인 회화작품을 변형시켜 기존의 회화작품의 정적인 그림자의 특징과는 다른 동적인 그림자를 표현하는 것을 알수 있었다. 본 논문을 바탕으로 보다 다양한 연구와 시도를 통해 프로젝션 매핑을 활용한 그림자의 조형적 확대를 기대해 볼 수 있겠다.

Shadow art is directly used as a medium of expression for many artistic works and arouses psychological and mental susceptibilities in viewers. The study has presented through artistic cases the fact that shadow, as a formative element, expresses artistic susceptibility by analyzing jocularity, simplicity and temporality that are characteristics of shadow so as to investigate the artistic meaning of shadow, and it researched how to represent the method and concept of expression for shadow in complex arts like painting, installation and media art rather than shadow itself that is encountered every day The research analyzed jocularity, simplicity and temporality in exemplary cases of shadow movement by using projection mapping method. For this, the research examined the principles of projection mapping, presented differences between conventional video works and works using projection mapping, with a focus on exemplary works, and analyzed the shadow expression in projection mapping. As a result, the study has found that a two-dimensional painting is transformed through projection mapping to express dynamic shadow that is different from characteristics of static shadow of existing paintings. It is possible to expect formative expansion of shadow using projection mapping through various research and attempts based on the study.
