환경디자인 계획에서 사용자의 요구와 참여가 높아지고 있다. 늘어나는 사용자 참여디자인을 뒷받침하기 위하여 사용자와 전문가 간 소통방법으로써의 도구 사용이 요구되어 지고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 사용자 참여를 지원하는 커뮤니케이션 도구의 특성을 포괄적인 안목에서 비교하고자 하는 것이다. 다양하게 개발된 도구를 구체적인 목표와 기능적 속성을 분석의 틀로 하여 드로잉, PIC카드, 이미지 맵, 블록도구, 3D모형, GIS, VR, AR 이상 8개의 시각화 유형별로 두 가지 사례를 임의로 선정하여, 총 16가지 사례를 분석하였다. 그 결과 아날로그 도구는 아이디어 생성·발전 및 사용자의 경험이해를 위해 사용되며 즉각성, 수월성이 수반되었다. 디지털 도구 사용은 사전평가와 제안검토 및 수정과정에서 주로 사용되며 현실성 있는 결과를 얻을 수 있게 하였다. 본 연구는 다양한 참여디자인 도구와 그 특성을 파악하고 도구마다 달성할 수 있는 목표를 살핌으로써 구체적 활용 가능성을 높였다. 본 연구는 참여디자인 기획 단계에서 도구 결정의 지표로 사용될 수 있으며, 나아가 도구의 창의적 개발과 활용을 진작시키는 기틀이 되기를 기대해 본다.

Demands and participation of the users is spreading in environmental designs. In the pursuit of this increasing user participatory design, tools which are drastic communication channels between user and professional are required. The purpose of this study is to compare comprehensively the features of communication tools that support the users` participation. Among the diverse tools developed so far, total 16 cases comprising two types of eight visual items such as drawing, PIC cards, image map, block, 3D models, GIS, VR and AR were analyzed based on the detailed aims and functional natures of the cases already announced. The results revealed that analog tools were mostly used to produce and develop new ideas and to promote the understanding of the users` experiences and had the characteristics of on-the-spot nature and easy convenience. On the other hand digital tools were mostly used in the process of prior evaluations and reviewing the alternatives to obtain the practical results and consequences. This study increases use possibility of participatory design by organizing features and detail goals of the various tools. This study is considered to be used as a reference in selecting the tools in the planning stage of participatory designs, and by presenting a comprehensive scope of tools for participatory designs this study can promote the creative development and utilization of design tools and techniques.
