국내 지방도시는 성장위주의 도시정책으로 인해 원도심과 신도심의 계획적인 도시공간구조를 형성하지 못하고 외형적인 성장만을 하여왔다. 최근에 들어 일부 지방도시에서 지방자치단체 위주로 개별적인 원도심 재생 사업을 추진하고 있으나, 도시 전체를 대상으로 하는 도시재생 계획이나 주변지역과의 연계를 위한 종합적인 도시재생사업 보다는 단기적인 효과가 큰 물리적 환경정비에 치중하는 방향으로 사업을 추진하고 있다. 이러한 문제점에 대한 유사한 대응으로 해외 주요 창조적 원도심 재생 사례들을 살펴보면 역사·문화 예술적 중심공간을 제공을 중심으로 한 창조적 도시재생 방법론을 활용하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 창조도시와 원도심 재생에 관련 문헌 고찰, 이론 고찰, 선행 연구를 고찰하고 국내외 사례분석을 통하여 창조적 도시재생전략의 시사점과 적용가능성을 도출한다. 나아가, 주민의식 조사를 통하여 원도심 재생을 위한 시사점을 도출하여 천안시 원도심 재생을 중심으로 창조공간을 활용한 원도심 재생 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

Domestic local cities have grown solely on the external part without a linked city structure formation of an old and new downtown due to growth-oriented urban policy. Recently, some local cities are promoting individual "old city restoration projects" in compliance with local autonomies. However, they are promoting short term effective physical facility maintenance oriented project rather than overall city targeted in liaison with the vicinity areas. So, old downtown provide historical, cultural and artistic center space looking at the major old downtown restoration projects overseas in response to these problems, and has been utilized creative urban regeneration methodology with creative old downtown restoration projects through the utilization of the neighboring areas. Thus, this study is to find out the implications and applicability for creative city recreating strategy through of literatures related to creative city & old downtown regeneration, theory study, advanced studies, case analysis in domestic and overseas, Furthermore, this study suggests the regeneration methodology of old downtown utilizing creative space focused on old downtown in cheon-an city to find out implications for development of old downtown through survey residents consciousness.
