최근 가전제품의 종류와 기능들이 다양화됨에 따라 청각 인터페이스에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이는 복잡하고 정교한 기능과 정보를 전달하기 위해서 시각 정보 뿐 아니라 이를 보완하는 청각 정보까지 필요해졌음을 의미한다. 사용자 중심의 연구개발의 중요성이 높아지면서 사용자를 위한 디자인에서 사용자에 의한 디자인으로 사용자가 능동적으로 디자인에 참여하여 개개인의 감성적인 선호도를 반영할 수 있는 수준에 이르렀다. 본 연구는 청각적 인터페이스가 기능들의 사용성과 학습의 용이함에 긍정적으로 작용될 수 있음을 밝히고자 하였으며, 이를 위해 첫째, 사운드와 청각 인터페이스에 관한 기본적인 개념을 파악하였고 둘째, 기존 가전제품의 청각 인터페이스를 분석하여 문제점을 발견하였으며 셋째, 새로운 청각 인터페이스 프로토타입으로 구현한 후 사용자 설문을 통해 타당성을 평가하였다. 온라인 설문 결과, 기능과 사운드의 높은 연관성을 볼 수 있었으나 사운드의 세기와 공간에 대한 고려가 포함되지 못하여 보다 완성도 있는 디자인을 위해 재차 수정과 검토가 필요함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 사운드의 정보 전달에 있어서 고려해야하는 다양한 요소들을 심층 분석하여 유비쿼터스 공간에 통합적으로 적용 될 수 있는 사운드를 진행하는 것이 추후 연구의 과제이다.

As the types and functions of household appliances are being diversified recently, there is increasing interest in audio user interface. In order to deliver complicated and delicate functions and information, it is highly required to provide not only visual information but also auditory information. The importance of user-oriented R&D is growing high recently. In response to the need, users often participate in the design process actively to create designs ‘by’ users rather than designs ‘for’ users. As a result, today’s interface designs reached level of the reflection of users’ emotional preference. This study purposed to show that the development of audio user interface can contribute to the usability of many functions and the easiness of learning. For this study, first, we reviewed the basic concepts of sound and audio user interface. Second, we analyzed audio user interface in existing household appliances and identified problems in it. The online survey of users showed that the functions were in close association with the sounds. As the intensity and space of sound were not considered, however, it was necessary to revise and review the design for higher completeness. Moreover, future research needs to analyze various factors to be considered in the communication of sound information and to develop sounds applicable integratively in ubiquitous spaces.
