본 연구는 대학도서관의 공간특성 현황을 파악하여 향후 대학도서관 공간계획을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 대학도서관의 특성과 변화를 수용하고 보다 전문화되고 차별화 된 도서관 환경의 방향을 이끌 수 있도록 현재 계획되어 있는 자료실의 공간특성을 파악하여 차별화 된 계획방안이 필요하다. 사례조사를 위해 서울소재 14개 대학교의 도서관을 선정하여 현장방문과 사진촬영, 도면파악을 실시하였다. 조사결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1)주제자료실은 건물 진입으로부터의 접근성에 대한 배려가 개인학습을 위한 일반열람실에 비해 미비한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 신축 및 리모델링 된 대학도서관은 주제자료실이 개인학습 및 멀티미디어 활용 등 다른 기능의 공간들과 서로 근접하도록 계획하는 특징을 보이는 곳이 많았으며, 건물의 물리적 한계로 층을 분리하여 계획하더라도 중정과 중앙계단 등을 이용해 오픈된 형태로 연계성을 높이는 사례들이 나타났다. 2)신축 및 리모델링 된 대학도서관의 경우 대학의 상징성을 표현하기 위하여 그래픽디자인 및 색채디자인을 적용하는 것으로 나타났다. 3)공용열람가구의 비율이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 공용열람가구는 4인 또는 6인 이상의 열람책상과 열람의자로 이루어진 가구로 자료실의 열람영역에 열배치 형으로 공용열람책상이 배치되어 있는 경우가 많으며, 반면 1인을 위한 프라이버시 보호의 개인열람석 비중은 낮게 나타났다.

The present study aims at understanding the spatial characteristics of academic libraries and providing basic resources for future constructions of such spaces. The sample survey selected for this study includes 14 university libraries located in Seoul. We visited the locations, took pictures, and examined the architectural plans. 1) The access to subject specialization is rather inadequate from the building entrance as compared to the general reading rooms. The university libraries that have gone through remodeling and recent construction have their subject specialization be built close to individual learning and multimedia facilities. 2) In case of university libraries that have been newly remodeled, graphic designs and color designs have been applied to emphasize the symbols of each university. 3) Most subject specialization provides public reading spaces. These spaces are formed with furniture (desks and chairs) allowing four or six or more people to sit arranged in rows.
