의료기술의 발달과 건강관리에 대한 관심 고조로 노인 인구는 이미 2000년대에 고령화 사회(7%이상)에 진입하였고, 2009년 7월 현재 총 인구 중 65세가 이상 노령인구가 차지하는 비율은 10.7%로 고령사회로 접어들었다. OECD 국가 중 독일, 프랑스, 미국와 비교해서 2050년에 약 2배정도의 비율로 증가 될 것이라 예측하는 거에 비해 우리나라는 5배가 넘게 증가하는 예상치를 나타내고 있다. 고령화 사회로 접어드는 속도가 매우급속도로 진행되고 있는 상황을 인식하며 국가에서도 고령사회에 대한 활동 지원의 방향으로 경로당과 노인복지관등이 점차 확대 실시되고 있는 실정이다. 그러나 노인에 적합한 시설기준이 미비하며 특히 경로당의 시설 기준은 다른 노인여가복지시설에 비해 많이 열악한 편이다. 따라서, 본 연구의 목적은 지역사회의 노인여가복지서비스의 시설로서 현재의 경로당 시설을 조사. 분석하여 노인들의 여가활동을 지원할 수 있는 지역 커뮤니티 시설로서의 시설 기준을 마련하여 추후 서울시에 신축 또는 개보수 시 경로당 설치 시설 자료로 활용함을 목적으로 한다.
