本硏究は橫書きと縱書きという書字方向と文字や人間に付與された身體性との關連性に連關生について、アルファベットと日本語文字(漢字と伽名)、ハングルを對象に分析·考察したものである。方法としては、「筆記·印刷された文字」という1次元的な結果物として固定した文字が持っている屬性を分析し、人間の手や筆記具によって順次的かつ有機的に表記される文字列のレイアウトという觀点から文字の連續的運動という身體性について分析を行った。そして、筆とペン、コンピュ-タのキ-ボ-ドという文字の入力メディアとそれを使用する人間の動きに現れる身體性がそれぞれ書字方向とどのように關わっているのかについて分析·考察を行った。その結果、各文字の書字方向の發生や確立、變化には次のような要素が關係していることを分かった。第一、アルファベットと日本語の漢字と伽名、ハングルの形態的な要素には それぞれ異なる形態的特性があり、文字の高さや幅、文字の上下左右の組合といった文字の形態的特性が各言語における書字方向に關係している。第二、アルファベットと日本語の漢字と伽名、ハングルの運動的な要素にはそれぞれ異なる特性があり、文字の筆順、文字列が作り出す連續的な動きといった文字の運動的特性は各言語における書字方向に關係している。 第三、アルファベットと日本語の漢字と伽名、ハングルを書いたり入力したりする道具にはそれぞれ異なる特性があり、筆とペン、コンピュ-タキ-ボ-ドという道具の特性、片手と兩手の動きなどといった身體的特性が各言語における書字方向に關係している。 このような結果は、書字方向には人間の手によって文字が記され、入力されるという身體性が大きく關係しており、書字方向は書字道具の發明と改良、文字の屬性の變化などによって可變的なものであることを意味すると言える。
Analysis considered it using various methods how the embodied cognition which the writing direction and a human being were given this study and were going to express linked. It was first for a purpose and analyzed it about the embodied cognition which fixed letter in itself had as a one-dimensional result thing called “note-taking, a printed letter” and analyzed it about body characteristics called the continuous exercise of letter from the point of view called the layout of character string transcribed sequentially and organically by the second, human hand and writing implements. And analysis considered it how the body characteristics which appeared for the third, a writing brush and a pen, the input media of the letter called the computer keyboard and the human movement using it were concerned each with a writing direction. As a result, I understood that the following element influenced outbreak and the fixation of the writing direction of each letter, a change. Because a letter is written down in the writing direction as for such result by a human hand, and the input physical nature exists as a main premise, I mean that the writing direction can change by invention and the improvement of the writing tool, the change of the attribute of the letter not a fixed thing.
