이 연구는 가정 배경, 학습에 대한 내재적 동기, 수업 태도 등에 기초하여 초등학교 교과 학습부진 학생을 유형화하고 유형별 특성을 분석하였다. 이 연구는 국어와 수학 학습부진 학생들을 학업성취에 기초하여 선별한 후 교과별로 학습부진 학생들을 유형화하였다. 교과 학습부진 학생들의 유형화를 위해서는 부모의 사회경제적 지위수준(socio-economic status: SES), 부모-자녀 상호작용, 학습의 내재적 동기, 학교에서의 수업 태도 등 학업성취와 관련된 특성을 활용하여 잠재프로파일 분석(Latent Profile Analysis)을 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 국어 학습부진 학생과 수학 학습부진 학생 모두 단일 집단이 아니라 3개 군집으로 유형화되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 이들 3개의 군집은 각각 학업성취 관련 변인에 따라서 특징이 다른 것으로 나타났다. 첫 번째 유형은 SES와 부모-자녀 상호작용 등 가정 배경 수준은 비교적 낮고 내재적 동기와 수업태도는 심하게 낮은 집단인 것으로 나타났다. 두 번째 유형은 SES 수준은 비교적 낮고 나머지 변인들은 보통 수준인 집단으로 학습부진 학생 중 가장 많은 비중을 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 다만, 국어 학습부진 학생들에게서는 부모-자녀 상호작용 수준도 다소 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 세 번째 유형은 모든 변인들의 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과는 초등학교 교과 학습부진 학생들이 단일 집단이 아니라 다양한 요인이 작용하고 있는 여러 집단으로 구성되어 있음을 보여준다. 마지막으로 분석 결과를 토대로 교과 학습부진 학생들의 학습 지원에서 고려되어야 할 사항들이 논의되었다.

This study analyzed the characteristic of underachievement student in the elementary school. In this study, the concept of underachievement was defined as a status of low score in a particular subject with higher score over average in other subjects. And the latent profile analysis method was applied to investigate how many latent gourps underachievement students are divided into by the four key variables related with academic achiement: socio-eonomic status(SES), parents-chlidren interaction, intrinsic learning motivation, and class participant attitude. In result, underachievement students was classified three types in both reading and mathematics. These types of underachievment have a different profile of four key variables. One is a typically considered group of underachievement with a low level of all variables. Second is a group that family background is somewhat low, but learning motivation and class learning attitude is on average. Last one is an unexpected group that all variable is higher than average students. These results indicates that underachievement students are consist of various groups, and implies that more individualized learning support is necessary in order to remedy underachievement students.
