Zizek`s politics has radically divided into two types by the moment of 1996. He performed an ideological criticism of liberal democracy in his first work in English, The Sublime Objects of Ideology. This book was a theoretical foundation of radical democracy advocated by Laclau and Mouffe. But, progressive theories today do still remain in an identity politics and red-green-purple coalition politics in the name of radical democracy in the reality of post-politicization of economy and capitalist globalization occurred in 1990s. So, Zizek thinks that it is urgent to criticize radical democracy. To do so, he speeches this following self-critique. At first, a philosophical weakness of The Sublime Objects of Ideology is in quasi-transcendental(Kantian) interpretation. The ethical gesture appropriate to this is to accept failures heroically. That is why the book is obsessed by the ethic of pure desire that is personified in Antigone who receives her death voluntarily. In this sense, the moral standpoint lying beneath the book is still phallogocentric, if the figure of Antigone is focused on. In order to escape from this theoretical impasse and to remove a forced choice of ‘democracy or totalitarianism’ at the same time, three levels should be necessary. They are clarification of Lacanian interpretation of Hegel, elaboration of the concept of ‘act’, and clearly critical distance toward the notion of democracy. In these diagnoses, he dares to commit good terror(divine violence) by mobilizing drive to death, supported by moral authenticity and political authoritarianism in stead of the politics of democracy and the ethical attitude of socialization of desire. In this way, he wants to repeat the revolutionary politics of Lenin, turning off radical democracy.
