은퇴는 생활에 많은 변화를 가져오기 때문에 은퇴 후의 생활에 잘 적응하는 것은 성공적인 노후생활을 좌우하게 된다. 상담은 사람들이 행복한 생활을 할 수 있도록 전문적인 서비스를 제공하는 활동이다. 따라서 은퇴를 앞둔 사람들이 은퇴 후를 잘 설계하고, 은퇴 후에 행복한 삶을 영위하도록 조력하는 것은 상담의 매우 중요한 영역이다. 그러나 은퇴상담은 이론과 실제의 측면에서 많은 연구가 이루어져야 함에도 불구하고 그 대상의 특수성으로 인하여 아직은 관심이 부족한 편이다. 본 연구의 목적은 은퇴상담의 현황을 실제와 연구의 측면에서 알아보고 은퇴상담의 전망을 살펴보는 데 있다. 이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위하여 설정된 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우리나라 은퇴상담의 현황은 어떠한가? 둘째, 은퇴상담과 관련된 연구동향은 어떠한가? 셋째, 은퇴상담의 여건과 전망은 어떠한가? 연구문제를 해결하기 위하여 문헌고찰, 선행연구 분석, 면담조사 등이 이루어졌다. 이와 같은 방법을 통하여 우리나라 은퇴상담의 현황을 공공부문과 민간부문으로 나누어서 제시하였고, 은퇴상담의 연구동향을 국내연구와 국외연구로 구분하여 제시하였다. 그리고 향후 은퇴상담의 여건과 전망을 논의하였다. 끝으로 은퇴상담의 발전을 위하여 해결해야 할 과제를 제안하였다.

Since retirement brings a lot of changes in life, adaptation to a new life is the key factor for a successful senior life after retirement. A counseling service is a professional activities which can be used to help people live a happier life. The most important function of a counseling service is to help people who face retirement design the life they want to have after retirement, so they can live a happy life. Although retirement counseling requires a lot of studying, in terms of theories and practices, due to the peculiarities of the research subjects, there has been insufficient attention given to this area in the academic field. This study aims to explore current status and prospect of retirement counseling. For the purpose, this study reviews the literature and research paper for the area of retirement counseling. From the reviews, the current status and prospect of retirement counseling was described in terms of public sector and private sector. And the research results were analysed in terms of domestic and international trend. Based on an analysis done regarding the changes in circumstances related to retirement counseling, this study suggest current job prospects, and possible research tasks for the future.
