글쓰기의 일반적 가치는 1) 개별 인간의 조화로운 발달과 수월성 계발에 기여하는 가치, 2) 개인과 사회의 소통을 강화하는 가치, 3) 인류 공동체의 사회 문화적 발달에 기여하는 가치 등에서 찾을 수 있다. 글쓰기의 교육적 가치는 더욱 넓게 확장되어야 한다. 미래사회가 분화와 전문화가 심해지는데, 그럴수록 통합과 소통과 창의는 중요해진다. 앞으로의 글쓰기 교육은 ‘실용 기능’의 가치를 넘어서서 인문적 가치를 반영해야 한다. 2015 교육과정은 ‘핵심역량’을 강조한다. 이는 종전에 분화된 기능(skill)으로만 다루어졌던 역량을 삶의 ‘실행 능력’이라는 역량으로 규정한다. 앞으로의 교육이 ‘생활하는 능력’의 총체적 개선을 목표로 하고 있음을 보여준다. 미래 사회는 모든 삶의 영역에서 글쓰기 교육의 수요를 만들어 낼 것이다. 글쓰기 교육도 그 경계가 넓혀져야 할 것이다. 미래사회에는 전문가들은 대중을 향한 소통력, 즉 글쓰기 능력을 가짐으로써 전문가로서의 영향력을 더 크게 가진다. 미래 사회는 서로 다른 가치 시스템들이 많아지고, 그만큼 이해와 해석의 다원화 노력들이 필요하다. 이는 글쓰기 활동을 통해서 가능하다. 또한 미래사회는 개인이나 공동체의 자유와 소망이 더욱 확장될 것이다. 이런 모든 기대는 미래사회가 ‘글쓰기 사회’로 진화할 것을 요청한다. 미래 삶의 환경에는 새로운 ‘글쓰기 감수성’이 필요하다. ‘글쓰기 감수성’은 글쓰기의 내용 맥락과 외연 맥락을 총체적으로 감득(感得)하려는 성향(노력)으로서, 자신의 글쓰기에 대한 메타 정서와 메타 인지가 결합된, 일종의 통합적인 교감 능력이라 할 수 있다. 부연하면 ‘글쓰기 감수성’은 글을 쓰는 자아가 글을 쓰려는 지향과 관련하여, 글쓰기의 내용, 글쓰기의 환경, 글쓰기의 대상 등을, 글쓰기의 다양한 맥락에 의거하여 총체적으로 느껴서 통찰하고 조정하려는 노력(역량)의 일종이라 할 수 있다. 이는 글쓰기를 하면서도 이 글쓰기의 내용에 대한 또는 이 글쓰기(결과물)의 소통에 대한 일종의 전망(prospect)을 느끼고 습득하는 어떤 인지적 지향성이라 해도 좋을 것이다. 글쓰기 감수성은 미래 글쓰기 교육(또는 글쓰기 능력)의 새로운 인식 지표 또는 가치 지표가 되어야 한다. 왜냐하면 모든 글쓰기의 내용 및 결과들이 다양한 인터페이스 체제를 통해서 다른 매체의 텍스트로 다채롭게 변전 소통되는 환경 속에 현대인들이 살아가기 때문이다. 여기에는 분명히 어떤 능력(또는 역량)의 요소가 있다. ‘글쓰기 감수성’이란 말 속에서 ‘감수성’이란 단순히 느껴서 받아들이는 능력을 넘어서는 그 무엇이 있다. 그것은 필자가 글쓰기의 사회적·문화적·소통적 환경과 총체적으로 교섭하는 교감 능력이다. 여기에는 경험과 이성의 작용을 포함하여, 글쓰기 주체가 지니고 있는 선험적 기제가 모두 동원되며 직관적 통찰까지도 포괄하는 것으로 보아야 한다.
