대학의 글쓰기 교육이 계열별로 진행되고 공학교육인증제도가 실행됨에 따라 공학 글쓰기교육에 관한 연구가 증가하였다. 본 연구에서는 공학 글쓰기의 특징을 바탕으로 학생들의 공학 글쓰기에서 주로 나타나는 오류의 유형과 원인을 분석하였다. 연구를 위하여 서울 소재 S대학과 H대학의 졸업 논문과 전공보고서 40개를 수합하여 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 크게 세 가지의 오류 유형이 발견되었다. 첫째 서론에서 문제 진술을 분명하게 하지 않는 경우가 65%에 달했고, 둘째 결론 도출에 있어서 서론에서의 문제와 관련이 적은 서술을 하거나 연구자의 해석이 누락된 경우가 50%에 달했다. 마지막으로 주요 용어들의 표기가 일관되지 않고 문법적, 의미적으로 부정확한 문장을 구성하는 경우가 68%에 달했다. 이러한 오류들은 학생들이 본인이 속한 전공글쓰기의 유형과 특성에 대한 지식이 부족하고, 공학 관련 주제에 관한 열린 토론과 창의적 사고를 펼칠 기회가 부족하기 때문에 발생하는 것으로 보았다. 따라서 정보 전달을 목적으로 하는 문장 쓰기 연습을 지도하고, 공학 소논문의 독서와 분석을 할 수 있는 교육 방안을 마련함과 동시에 학생들이 자신들의 연구 주제와 관련하여 동료들과 토론하는 기회를 제공함으로써 위와 같은 오류들을 줄일 수 있을 것으로 보았다.

Studies about college engineering writing has been increased due to the adoption of Accreditation for Engineering & Technology. The purpose of this paper is to analyze typical problems and their reasons in college engi neering writing. For this study, 40 writings of students majoring engineer ing in two Universities in Seoul has been collected and examined. As a r esult, 65% of 40writings lacks problem statements including specific purp ose of study, and 50% either lacks discussions of their study in conclusio ns or do not match their conclusions and introductions. 68% of writings are written in ungrammatical sentences and sentences in those writings ar e connected not in coherent ways. Students have those problems in their engineering writing, because they are not familiar with the features and c onventions of engineering writing, and they did not have many chances t o consider ``why`` they are researching. The teaching strategies based on m ore studies of those problems need to be prepared in near future. In this paper, practicing writing sentences, having peer discussions about enginee ring subjects, reading and analysing engineer articles are suggested for re duction those problems that students have.
