University education in Japan has become more common and reached the universal stage. In spite of reaching that stage, the popularization has created many problems that need to be discussed. It would be beneficial to both universities and regional high school students to clarify what criteria students use in selecting a university and their goals for after graduation. Further, the increase in the range of student levels and interests requires that universities make clear the differentiations among them. Therefore, the present study has looked at university policies, entrance portals, and survey data to get a clearer picture of the present situation regarding the above noted issues.
