본고는 김한수, 방현석, 정화진으로 대변되는 1980년대 후반 노동소설에 대한 그간의 평가가 지나치게 부정적이었다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 노동소설에 대한 정당한 평가를 위해서는 노동소설을 지배하고 있는 정치적 정념에 대한 고찰이 필요하다고 보고, 스피노자의 정념론을 원용하여 논의를 진행하였다. 1980년대 후반 노동소설은 거시적 차원에서 “절망/ 두려움→굴욕/ 분노→동지애”라는 정념의 사이클과 미시적 차원에서 “두려움(배신) →마음의 동요→동지애”라는 정념의 사이클을 보여준다. 김한수가 희망의 좌절에서 오는 ‘절망`과 정치체의 불의에서 오는 ‘분노`를, 방현석이 노동자의 정체성을 부정하는정치체에 대한 ‘분노`와 그 분노로부터 귀결되는 ‘동지애`를 표현하는 데 주력하여 일차적으로 전자의 사이클을 완성한다면, 정화진은 그 이후에도 또다시 발생할 수밖에 없는 ‘마음의동요`를 표현하는 데 주력하면서도 후자의 정념의 사이클을 미완의 상태로 남겨둔다. 이는1980년대 노동소설이 도달한 지점을 매우 솔직하게 그리고 상징적으로 드러낸다. 더욱이각각이 보여주고 있는 고유의 정치적 정념들은 정의·공정함에 대한 열망, 따라서 매우 근원적인 차원에서 민주주의적 열망을 표현하고 있다. 이점에서 1980년대 후반의 노동소설은현재의 상황에 더욱 의미 있는 문학적 자산이라 평가할 수 있다.
This paper adopts Spinoza`s passions to clarify the political passions in labor novels in the late 1980s for which Hansu Kim, Hyeonseok Bang, and Hwajin Jeong stood. The labor novels in the late 1980s showed the cycle of passions, "dispair / fear → humiliation / anger → comradeship" in the macroscopic dimension, and "fear(betrayal) → vacillation → comradeship" in the microscopic dimension. Hansu Kim and Hyeonseok Bang dedicated themselves to the former expressions while Hwajin Jeong to the latter. Hansu Kim expressed the `dispair` due to the frustration and the `anger` coming from the injustice of the regime, while Hyeonseok Bang the `anger` about the regime that negated the identity of laborers and the `comradeship` to which the anger reduced. And, Hwajin Jeong expressed the `vacillation` that was necessarily generated afterwards. While Kim and Bang primarily completed the first cycle of passions, Jeong left the second cycle incomplete. Their works showed the reach of the 80s`labor novels very earnestly and symbolically. Also, their respective inherent political passions expressed desires for justice and fairness and for radical democracy. In this respect, the 80s` labor novels can be evaluated as more significant literary assets in the current situations.
