본 연구의 목적은 성인애착, 대인관계능력, 공감 간의 관계를 알아보고 성인애착과 대인관계능력 간의 관계를 공감이 매개하는지를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 W시, A시, P시에 거주하는 20세 이상 성인남녀 362명을 대상으로 성인애착, 대인관계능력, 공감을 측정하는 설문지를 실시하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 성인애착의 하위유형인 애착불안이나 애착회피는 대인관계 능력과 유의미한 부적상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 성인애착의 하위 유형인 애착회피는 공감의 하위유형인 정서적, 인지적 공감과 유의미한 부적상관을, 애착불안은 정서적 공감과 유의미한 정적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 공감은 애착불안과 대인관계능력 간의 관계에서 매개역할을 하지 못했으나, 인지적 공감은 애착회피와 대인관계 능력 간의 관계에서는 부분 매개 효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대해 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediation effect of empathy on the relationships between adult attachment and interpersonal competence. We collected data about adult attachment, interpersonal competence, empathy from 362 adults over age 20 lived in W city, A city and P city. The results showed that a significant negative correlation among anxious attachment, avoidant attachment and interpersonal competence. It was also found that avoidant attachment is a significant negative relationship with emotional empathy and cognitive empathy. Empathy didn``t mediated the relationships of anxious attachment and interpersonal competence, but cognitive empathy mediated the relationships of avoidant attachment and interpersonal competence. Limitations of the current study and implication for future studies were discussed.
