본 연구는 ‘중년기 남성 직장인이 전생애의 진로전환 과정을 어떻게 경험하는가?’라는 질문을 통해 진로전환 생애사와 진로전환 경험의 의미를 살펴보는데 그 목적이 있다. 진로생애 이야기(career life history narrative) 방법론에 적합한 자료 수집을 위해 3차에 걸친 면담을 실시했으며, 자료 형태는 주로 이야기(narrative)이다. 자료를 주제별로 약호화하여 소주제들을 찾아내었고, 그 연계성을 분석하여 주요 개념들을 분석해 내었다. 연구 참여자 검증과 동료 검증 과정을 통해 분석 타당도를 확인하였다. 연구 결과 근원을 추구하거나 자신의 전공을 되찾아 가는 진로전환 생애사를 확인하였고, 그 경험 속에서 생계유지, 소명, 보람 찾기, 경력개발, 흥미와 행복 추구, 자아실현의 의미를 확인하며, 이를 수단적, 사회적, 심리적 의미로 나누어 논의하였다. 또한 두 연구 참여자의 30여 년의 긴 진로 생애에서 다수의 진로전환이 일어났고, 진로전환 경험을 실패나 부적응, 구명책으로 여기는 것이 아니라 자신의 방법으로 적응하며 자신의 삶을 구성해 나가는 과정으로 여기고 있는 연구 결과를 바탕으로 진로전환에 대한 긍정적 관점으로의 전환이 필요함을 논의하였고, 진로전환에 대한 지원체계의 확장이 필요함을 제안하였다.

This thesis is a study to investigate the career transition life history and it``s meaning, with the question ``How male company workers do career transition experience of his whole life?``. Main materials for this study are career life history narrative collected through 3 times of interviews. Major themes were searched by coding along small themes and connectivity analysis. Validity was performed through member checking and peer debating process. It was concluded that career transition life history was a process to inquire into the original interest or regain one``s specialty. Crucial fators inducing these career transition experiences were ``Maintaining subsistence``, ``Mission search``, ``Finding worth``, ``Carrer development``, ``Pursuit of interest``, ``Pursuit of happiness`` and ``Self-realization``, respectively. These were discussed as measuring, social, psychological meanings. In this study it was discussed that several career transitions had been occurred for about thirty years long, and were considered not as exodus from failure or maladjustment, but as a reconstruction of their lives with their own ways. Thus, new perspectives for career transition is necessary. Therefore it needs to extend support system for preparation for the variety of career transition.
