본 연구는 도시재생에 있어서 문화적 도시재생전략에 중점을 두고, 기존 도시들의 재생 사례를 기초로 유형을 분류한 자료를 바탕으로 하여 문화적 도시재생의 6가지 유형별 전략을 서촌에 적용하여 연구하였다. 6가지 문화적 도시재생전략의 유형별 전략에 맞추어 분석한 결과 서촌은 문화를 활용한 도시재생전략을 각각의 문화적 특징에 따라 적용할 수 있으며 문화 환경의 조성을 통하여 낙후된 도시 이미지 개선은 긍정적 요인으로 작용할 수 있다. 또한 전면적인 재개발이 아니라 도시재생을 통해 기존 산업화 시대의 건축물이나 구시대의 유산 등에 문화를 접목하여 도시라는 공간을 지속가능한 공간으로 변화시킨다면 도시경쟁력과 차별성을 갖게 될 것이다. 각 전략들이 성공적으로 실시되려면 지역주민의 참여와 의견의 반영이 가장 중요하며, 서촌에서 나타나고 있는 문화적 도시재생전략들은 지역주민들을 바탕으로 지역의 문화적 특색을 고려하여 지역의 정체성을 발전시키는 방향으로 나아가야 한다.

This study focused on the cultural regeneration strategy in urban regeneration. Six cultural urban regeneration strategy types, which were established based on the regeneration cases of existing cities and information classified by the types were applied on Seochon area. According to the result of analysis by types of six cultural urban regeneration strategies, Seochon can be applied of urban regeneration strategies utilizing culture dependent on each cultural characteristics and the improvement of the straggling city image by creating cultural environment can work as a positive factor. In addition, Seochon can be different from getting city competitiveness, if it would not go for complete redevelopment but would change the city space into sustainable space by combining culture with the heritage of past age or buildings from past industrialization age. The participation of residents and the reflection of their opinion are the most important factor for the success of each strategy; therefore, the cultural urban regeneration strategy ongoing in Seochon should go on by the residents toward the direction of advancing the identity of area by considering the cultural characteristic of the area.
