This paper critically reviews the salient features of AGREE advocated in late Minimalism. It is to show that AGREE-based grammar is doomed to suffer from the shortcomings in both conceptual and empirical points of view. Conceptually, the argument that AGREE is a more economical operation than MOVE does not fit with the hypothesis that both AGREE and MOVE is a virtually conceptually necessary(VCN) operation. Empirically, expletive construction, a classic example for AGREE-based analysis, is to be recapitulated by MOVE-based analysis. That is, it is to show that AGREE-based analysis cannot account for some prominent characteristics of there-construction.
