본 연구는 초·중·고등학생들의 쓰기에 대한 인식을 탐색하는데 목적이 있다. 목적을 달성하 위해 쓰기에 대한 가치, 태도, 효용과목적, 실태 등의 내용을 전국 초중고생학생 722명을 대상으로 설문조사연구를 실시하였다. 그 결과, 학생들은 쓰기를 자신의 의사를 표현하고 의사소통하는 매개체로 인식하는 경향이 두드러졌다. 대체로 여학생이 남학생보다 쓰기인식과 쓰기목적에 대한 긍정적 인식이 높았고, 학년이 높을수록 학업부담감 가중으로 부정적 태도가 높아졌다. 또한 학생이 대도시에 거주할수록 쓰기 가치 및 효용에 대한 긍정적인 인식이 두드러졌다. 한편 필자 자신의 쓰기수행 측면에서 평소 의도적인 글쓰기가 제한적이었고, 쓰기과정에서 겪는 문제점에 대해 주위로부터 조언을 구하거나 문제를 해결하지 않고 방관하는 태도가 두드러졌다. 특히 쓰기 수업과 밀접한, 교사에게 조언을 구하는 경우는 9.6%에 불과했다. 개인적 또는 사회적으로도 초·중·고등학교 시기의 필자로서 쓰기 인식과 태도는 중요한 영향을 미칠 수밖에 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고 쓰기환경을 둘러싼 교육 공동체의 노력과 관심은 너무 낮다. 무엇보다 쓰기에 대한 가치와 긍정적 태도변화를 위한 구성원들의 적극적인 인식전환이 필요하다.

The purpose of this study was to explore awareness of the writing of elementary, middle, and high school students. To achieve the purpose of the study, researchers surveyed 722 elementary, middle, and high school students from all over the country, with questions relating to the contents of value, attitude, utility, object, reality, and so on about writing. As a result of the survey, students expressed their own opinions on writing as a medium for communication. Also, generally, the survey marked the positive awareness of female students more than male students on writing awareness and purposes, and as students advanced through school, they showed negative attitudes developing from academic stress. Students living in big cities, stood out as displaying more positive awareness about not only writing`s value but also its usefulness, more so than the students who are living in rural communities. However, when it came to the writer`s own writing performance, intentional writing was extremely unusual, and it was also rare for students to arrange for advice about problems in the process of the writing. Whether writing individually or socially, elementary, middle, and high school students` interest in writing awareness and attitude was low with education community making all the difference. All members needed to actively recognize writing.
