이 연구의 목적은 병리적 상상력의 극문학 텍스트를 통시적으로 살핌으로써 질병과 관련한 스토리텔링을 천착하는 것이다. 대상 텍스트는 「병자삼인」(1912), 「한씨연대기」(1985), 「수인의 몸 이야기」(2009)이다. 「병자삼인」에서는 근대인 ‘되기’의 부적응을 질병으로 인식하였다. 「한씨연대기」는 격변하는 시대를 배경으로 질병에 깊숙이 침투한 전쟁과 윤리를문제 삼았다. 「수인의 몸 이야기」는 근대의 질병관에는 인간의 고통이 소외되고 있음을 보여주었다. 이러한 질병관(疾病觀)의 추이는 질병이 고통을 증상 삼아 병명으로서 의료계에 수렴됨을 시사한다. 「병자삼인」이나 「한씨연대기」에서 질병은 발병-증상-진단-치료-경과·예후의 단계로 그려지는데 이는 병리학의 학문 체계에 의한 ‘의학서사’이다. 반면에「수인의 몸 이야기」는 아픔을 겪는 사람의 지극히 개인적이면서도 독자적인 질병 이야기를 그리는데 이는 ‘환자의 스토리텔링’이다. 이들은 질병의 모던 경험과 포스트모던 경험이라는 측면에서 비교된다. 또 고통을 이해하는 그 중심축이 상이함을 나타낸다. 「병자삼인」과 「한씨연대기」, 「수인의 몸 이야기」는 각기 다른 스토리텔링의 방법을 보이는데 이로써 관객은 인간과 질병의 복잡성에 참여하게 된다. 이를 통해 질병의 은유를 조감할 수 있었다. 「병자삼인」, 「한씨연대기」, 「수인의 몸 이야기」에서 질병은 ‘신문’, ‘전쟁’, ‘지하철’로 은유된다.

The purpose of this study is to inquire into storytelling related with diseaseby examining dramatic literature text of pathological imagination diachronically. In (1912), maladjustmen t to ‘becoming’ a modern is recognizedas disease. And (1985) brings into question the war andethics which penetrate deep into disease with the setting of rapidly changingtime. (2009) shows that the modern view to diseasealienates human pain. In or , disease is described with thesteps of pathogenesis-symptoms-diagnosis- treatment-progress-prognosis. Thisis ‘medical narrative’ based on the science system of pathology. In themeantime, tells a fairly personal and independentdisease story of a person suffering pain, and this is a patient`s ‘storytelling’. , , and employ a different method of storytelling from one another, and with this, theyparticipate in the complexity of men and disease. The complexity is similarto hybridity of the process to differentiate the symptoms of disease. Eventually,we participate in human complexity through storytelling and view the metaphorof disease. Disease in , , and is expressed metaphorically as ‘newspaper’, ‘war’, or ‘subway’.
