『삼국유사』의 <수로부인>은 자용절대의 미인을 둘러싼 이야기이다. 『삼국유사』에서 예외적으로 표제에 여성을 내세운 이 이야기는 주인공 수로의 미적 자질이 갖는 신이성을 이야기하고 있다. 이 매력적인 인물을 다룬 환상적인 이야기는 연구자들로 하여금 많은 해석을 양산하게 했고, 문화ㆍ예술계에서 다양한 텍스트 다시 쓰기를 이끌어내고 있다. 이야기의 주인공 수로는 특이하게도 서사 내 행위주체로 기능하지 않고 파송자나 수령자, 대상으로 존재한다. 절대미의 가치를 스스로 획득하기보다는 타자에 의해 규정되고 있는 것이다. 많은 경우 신화나 설화에서 여성 인물들은 수로처럼 행위 주체의 기능을 수행하지 못하는 수동적 존재들이다. 이는 과거 여성들의 존재론적 지위와 관련되며, 주체로서 행위 기능을 수행했다 하더라도 기록되거나 서사화 되는 과정에서 그 행적이 은폐되고 남성적 시각에 의해 타자화 되었기 때문이다. 아름다운 여성은 철저히 남성적 세계 속에서 그 의미와 가치가 제한되고 왜곡되기 마련이다. 국립극단에 의해 새로 쓰여진 수로부인 이야기 <꽃이다>는 원전의 핵심 사건들을 따르면서 수로를 중심으로 다양한 인간관계와 갈등을 새롭게 형상화했다. <꽃이다>는 자용절대의 수로를 둘러싼 은폐화ㆍ타자화의 메커니즘을 폭로하고, 주체로서 역할을 드러내고 새롭게 재생시키고 있다. <꽃이다>는 모본 <수로부인> 서사의 행위자와 가치를 둘러싼 모순에 대해 문제를 제기하고 하나의 해답을 제시하고 있다. 이처럼 고전문학 다시 쓰기의 의의는 원전 서사의 원형성과 함축적 의미에 관한 새로운 시각과 담론을 생산하는 것이다.

This old short story has led the literary researchers to produce much discussion and the artists to rewrite new and other texts of . Suro who is the main character in this story does not function as subject but object or sender and receiver. The case of Suro as protagonist does not apply in general narrative grammar or actant model. She does not get a significant value by herself and her value is defined by others. That is a common feature of the female character who appears in the Korean old narrative. The first reason is women’s the social status in the past and the second is the concealment and distortion by male’s view in the male-dominated world. was performed by the national theater company of Korea in 2012. The script of this play is one in which it was rewritten to . followed faithfully the main events and episode of the original text. The main difference from the original text is that a variety conflicts would occur around Suro. This work could expose the mechanism of concealment and distortion over the most beautiful woman and regenerate role as a subject of the narrative. This rewritten text raises critical question about narrative inconsistency of the original text and gives a answer to the question. The significance of rewriting of classical literature is to produce a new perspective and discourse about the archetypality and implications of the original text.
