This paper is an attempt to compare Lacan and Zizek interms of three perspectives to see where they agree and disagree in the cross perspective of continuity and noncontinuity. The first is the concept of negativity through which Zizek argues that reality is the not-all for it is based on the lack of the symbolic; it exists in the interval and the gap that is impossible to fill. Lacan focuses primarily on nothingness and lack and disrupt, understanding negativity in its relation to the subject’s being. While Zizek emphasizes the process of proletarian subjectivation, the political position structurally forcing proletarians into non-being, Lacan insists that subjectivity can be realized through subjective destitution, for it is nothing other than the realization of non-being. Subjective destitution is the ultimate goal and to accomplish separation is the ultimateaim of analysis. The main difference between them lies in their political and ethical orientation. Zizek`s political philosophy aims at communism through which the common good and universality, he thinks, is to be attained. However, Lacan underscores the subject’s ethical position, its true place being the identification with the symptom. As such, the relation between Lacan and Zizek should be understood as complementary to each other, rather than oppositional, for the latter’s goal of communist revolution is a politicized version of the former’s ethics of psychoanalysis.
