이 연구에서는 국어교육 연구 방법의 유형 분류를 제안하고, 그에 따른 국어교육 연구 방법의 쟁점을 몇 가지로 살펴보았다. 국어교육 연구 방법의 유형을 구분하는 기준으로 연구 자료의 수집, 연구자의 위치, 연구의 목적, 연구자의 의도, 시간의 흐름, 연구 자료의 생산 방법, 통제 정도, 연구 목적, 연구의 활용도, 기계적 장치의 이용 여부 등에 주목하였다. 이를 토대로 본 연구에서는 개념 연구와 경험 연구, 이론 연구과 실행 연구, 종단 연구와 횡단 연구, 역사 연구ㆍ기술 연구ㆍ실험 연구, 기초연구ㆍ개발연구ㆍ정책연구, 실험 연구와 문화기술지 연구, 사례 연구.실행 연구ㆍ조사 연구, 내성법 연구와 담화분석 연구, 실제 기반 연구와 기계 기반 연구 등으로 구분하여 제안하였다. 국어교육의 연구 방법을 발전시키기 위해서는 각각의 연구 방법을 상호보완적 관계로 파악하고, 이론 연구와 실행 연구를 변증법적 관계로 파악할 필요가 있다. 국어 교사의 탐구를 중시하고 교사 연구자로서 교사의 전문성을 신장시켜야 한다. 각각의 연구 방법에 요구되는 엄격성을 구비하여 연구의 수준을 향상시켜 나가야 하며, 표현의 명료성을 높여서 연구의 소통성을 높여야 한다.

This paper investigated the types of research methods in Korean Language Education(KLE) and related issues. The research methods involved many elements such as data collection, position and viewpoint of researcher, research purpose, researcher`s intention, time, degree of controlling, utilizing, and using machine. Based on these elements, research methods of KLE could be classified and contrasted. Those are conceptional and empirical research, pure and action research, longitudinal and cross-sectional research, experimental and ethnography, introspection and discourse analysis, case study and survey study. Any research itself has multiplicity and complexity. So we should understand that there are many aspects of any one research. To advance research methods of KLE, it is needed to know the complimentary of conceptional research and empirical research. Theoretical research and action research develops dialectically. Teacher`s inquiry is important, and the concept of ``teacher researcher`` should be established.
