According to the 2009 revised national curriculum, new subject emerged in the category of Korean, ``Classics`` subject. But there are few argument about the origin of the subject or the character of it, and it is unusual in the view of the history of Korean education. Because the successful operating of the ``Classics`` stands on the basis of sufficient debating and inspection on it. For that, this thesis aims to search for the identity of ``Classics``, the new subject. First, this thesis searched for the context of the emerging of ``Classics in 2009 revised National Curriculum. In the 2009 revised National Curriculum, ``Classics`` reflects the main idea of the Curriculum, in other word, integration. Among the subjects in this Curriculum, ``Classics`` is the closest subject to the integration, because this subject is connected with the other subjects, and does not pursue a physical association with them. The next, we analyzed the contents of the subject to understand the identity of this subject through textbooks, which materialized the National Curriculum. The list of the classic which used in the textbooks can show the cognizance about the classic, and the learning activity in the textbooks reveals how the main idea of integration can be materialized. There are integration of understanding, application, criticism. Most people agree to the importance of classic, but many of them are apt to give up reading classic actually. It is the reason why the elaborated educational plan must be prepared, and this thesis ask more attention and debating about the education of classic.
