이 논문의 목적은 이공계 학습자들의 글쓰기 능력 개선을 위해 글쓰기 교육 주체가 주목해야 할 점들을 제안하는 데 있다. 이를 정리하면 아래와 같다. 첫째, 요약문 쓰기 활동이 이공계 학습자들에게 필요하다는 사실을 공유해야 한다. 요약 활동 자체가 전공지식을 이해하는 과정 중 하나라는 점을 학습자들이 알 수 있도록 지도해야 한다. 둘째, 수정활동을 통해 일어나는 사고 과정이 위계적, 심층적 사고를 위한 과정이라는 점을 주목하고 학습자들이 자신의 글을 수정할 기회를 확대할 수 있도록 수업을 설계해야 한다. 셋째, 학습자들이 제출한 글의 피드백은 글쓰기의 사고 과정이 내재화될 수 있도록 제시되어야 한다. 글쓰기 튜터링 시 질문 과정을 세분화하거나 학습자 글에 대한 피드백 방식을 다각화함으로써 비판적, 창의적 사고를 내재화할 수 있도록 이끄는 것이다. 넷째, 이공계 학습자 글을 지도하면서 일반 글쓰기 원리를 어디에 어떻게 적용할 수 있는가를 주목해야 한다. 이 과정을 학습자와 공유함으로써 일반 글쓰기 원리의 가치와 의미를 확인할 수 있는 기회를 제공해야 한다. 다섯째, 이공계 영역 내에서 글쓰기의 가치를 확대하는 과정이 필요하다. 이공계학습자들이 이공계 영역 내에서의 주관성이나 창의성이 의미하는 바가 무엇인지를 이해하여 이를 자신의 글쓰기에 반영할 수 있도록 함으로써 글쓰기 과제에 자신의 가치를 반영할 수 있도록 지도해야 한다.
This article aims at suggesting what people involved in teaching writing should consider in oder to improve science and engineering students` writing skill. First of all, it should be shared that science and engineering students need summary writing activity. Students should be informed that summary writing process is one step to understand their major, science and engineering. Second, professors should understand that the main purpose of editing is hierarchical and critical thinking; therefore, they need to design the class where students can have enough opportunity to edit their writing themselves. Third, feedback should be suggested in an effective way so that the thinking process can be internalized. That is, the feedback can be specified while having tutoring session, which can be helpful for students to internalize critical and creative thinking. Fourth, professors should focus on where the general principle of writing can be applied when they teach science and engineering writing. By sharing the idea, professors should provide opportunity to identify the basic principle, value, and meaning of writing. Lastly, the curriculum to enhance the value of writing is needed in science and engineering department. Through the course, students can understand the meaning of subjectiveness and creativeness in engineering and will be able to reflect the value on their own writing task.
