본 연구는 유아들을 이해하기 위한 수단으로 유아교육기관에서 장기간에 걸쳐 다양한 평가 자료를 수집하는 포트폴리오 평가활동이 교사의 유아에 대한 이해를 도와줄 뿐 만 아니라 평가를 위한 활동을 진행하는 과정에서 자기평가, 또래평가, 활동결과물의 공유 등을 통하여 유아들의 기초 학습 능력 및 학습과 관련된 사회적 기술에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 만 5세 30명을 대상으로 이질통제 집단 전후검사 설계를 실시하였으며, 평가과정에서의 유아들의 활동에 대한 관찰기록, 작품표본 등의 형태로 수집된 자료들을 통하여 변화과정에 대한 구체적 자료를 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 포트폴리오 평가활동이 유아의 기초 학습 기능에 긍정적인 영향을 미치나, 읽기 능력보다는 쓰기 능력과 셈하기 능력에 주로 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 학습과 관련된 사회적 기술의 숙달, 자기주장, 자기조절, 순응의 모든 영역에서 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

This study was designed to assess the positive influence on teachers and young children, who joined the portfolio assessment activities. It examines how these portfolio assessment activities affected young children``s basic learning abilities based on cognitive structure and social skills related to learning. To test my hypothesis, I chose a couple of control groups composed of 30 5-year-olds from two public kindergartens. One focus group was conducted using the 10-week portfolio assessment activities while the other group was not. The main results are as follow. First, young children who took part in the portfolio assessment program showed an improvement in the basic learning skills particularly writing and calculating skills. During the quality analysis of each group, I checked the changes in all abilities, including reading, writing and calculating. That``s why young children can assess themselves reflectively by joining these activities planned by their teachers. In other words, they displayed their own abilities to one another and shared assessment or advice with other peers. Thus, teachers can understand young children``s`` actual learning level regarding basic learning skills and can plan proper teaching and learning strategies. Second, through the portfolio assessment activities, the children have improved in the subcategories of social skills such as mastery, self-assertion, self-control, and adaptation in a positive manner. Also, quality analysis of every case showed that social skills all changed as time passed. These social skills are all related to young children``s`` learning abilities. The behaviors concerning intellectual understanding, value and attitude not only help learners improve their socialization, but also have a positive affect on cognitive development.
