본 연구는 발달장애인의 이성교제에 대한 부모, 특수교사, 사회복지사의 인식 및 지원요구를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 발달장애인 부모 4명, 발달장애인 성교육 및 이성교제 상담지도 경험이 있는 특수교사 3명, 사회복지사 3명 각각으로 구성된 3개의 그룹을 대상으로 심층면담을 활용한 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 집단면담을 통해 얻은 자료들은 범주합산 및 지속적 비교방법을 통해 분석되었으며, 분석결과 다음과 같은 4가지 주요 주제가 도출되었다; (1) 이성교제가 발달장애인의 발달에 미치는 긍정적 효과 및 중요성에 대한 인식, (2) 이성교제 수용에 있어서 장애정도와 부모의 연령이 미치는 영향, (3) 이성교제와 관련하여 부모와 관련기관 종사자가 인지하는 책임과 역할 수행, (4) 이성교제의 향후 문제인 발달장애인의 결혼 및 자녀 출산에 대한 회의적인 태도와 염려. 또한 발달장애인의 건강한 성 발달과 이성교제를 위해 다음과 같은 지원방안들이 마련될 필요가 있음이 제시되었다; (1) 발달장애인의 특성을 고려한 성교육 제공, (2) 자연스러운 만남의 기회 제공, (3) 부모와 관련기관 종사자를 위한 전문 상담 및 교육, (4) 학교 및 관련 기관의 인식변화.

The purpose of the present study was to explore perceptions and support needs of parents, special education educators, and social service providers towards intimate relationships of individual with developmental disabilities. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a focus group of 4 mothers of individuals with disabilities, a focus group of 3 special education educators, and a focus group of 3 social service providers. As a result of this study, four themes were emerged: (1) positive effects of intimate relationships on individuals with developmental disabilities, (2) impacts of parents’ age and disability levels on attitudes of intimate relationships, (3) roles of parents and staffs in intimate relationships; (4) concerns about marriage and parenting. In addition, support needs were suggested to develop healthy intimate relationships: (1) individuals with disabilities need to be provided sexuality education relevant to them, (2) they need to be given opportunities for meeting, (3) counselling and training need to be provided parents, special education educators, and social service providers, (4) schools and agencies should develop clear sexuality policies and position.
