The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a dating skill program on the interpersonal relationships and dating skills of high school students with intellectual disabilities. The participants were 20 high school students with intellectual disabilities in a special school for students with intellectual disabilities, located in Seoul, Korea. A pretest-posttest control-group experimental design was used. The program was carried out with 20 sessions, 2 times a week in a creative activity class within the special school curriculum. The program consists of following sections: (1)friends of the opposite sex, (2)expressing a good feeling, (3)asking for a date, (4)appointing a date, (5)preparing for date, (6)starting date, (7)dating manners, (8) amusing conversation, (9) conflict and reconciliation, and (10)appropriate physical contact. Korean-Relationship Change Scale(K-RCS) were used to measure the students`` interpersonal relationships change. A dating skills evaluation scale for the students with intellectual disabilities developed by the researchers of this study was used to measure the students`` dating skills. The results of this study were as follows: First, the experimental group that participated in the dating skill program showed significantly better interpersonal relationships than the control group. Second, the experimental group showed significantly better performance of dating skills than the control group. Consequently, this study found that the dating skill program implemented in this study was effective in improving the interpersonal relationships and dating skills of the students with intellectual disabilities. Continuous efforts are required to enhance interpersonal and dating skills of adolescents with intellectual disabilities who are in secondary and transition education programs. Suggestions for future studies and limitations of this study are provided.
