본 연구는 언어의 유창성과 정확성의 균형적 발달이라는 한국과 일본의 개정 영어 교육과정의 목표가 새롭게 발행된 영어 교과서에 얼마나 잘 반영되어 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 본 연구는 한국과 일본의 중학교 3학년 개정 영어 교과서 각 3종, 총 6종을 선정하여, 의사소통 능력과 정확성을 동시에 추구하는 FonF 기법이 어떤 종류로 어느 정도의 빈도로 사용되었는지를 분석하였고, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 우선, 전반적으로 한국과 일본의 영어 교과서 모두에서 FonF 기법이 빈번하게 사용된 것으로 나타나, 개정 영어 교과서가 영어 교육과정 목표에 부응하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 다음으로, FonF 기법의 종류와 관련하여서는, 입력 쇄도, 입력 강화, 언어 필수 과제의 FonF 기법 세 종류가 사용된 것으로 분석되었다. 구체적으로, 한국 교과서의 경우 입력 쇄도, 입력 강화, 언어 필수 과제가 23:54:23의 비율로, 일본 교과서의 경우 58:37:5의 비율로 사용되었다. 특히, 입력 쇄도와 입력 강화 기법이 높은 사용 빈도를 보였는데, 이는 입력 쇄도와 입력 강화와 같은 암시적 FonF 기법의 빈도를 높임으로써 학습자들의 의사소통 방해를 최소화하려는 노력의 일환으로 해석된다. 하지만, 분석 대상이었던 FonF 기법 중 의식 상승 과제, 입력 처리, 딕토글로스 기법은 두 나라의 영어 교과서 모두에서 전혀 사용되지 않았는데, 이러한 한계점은 향후 교과서 개발 시 반드시 고려되어야 할 것이다.

Recently, Korea and Japan have developed and implemented new national curricula for the English subject, and new English textbooks have been published to meet such circumstances. To seek how well the new national curricular of the two nations are reflected on newly published English textbooks, this paper examined - based on six types of focus-on-form techniques - 6 Korean and Japanese English textbooks of 3rd-year middle school. Through the frequency analysis, three types of FonF, that is, input flood, input enhancement, and task essential techniques were found to be used with a high frequency. In addition, the ratios of the frequency for the three techniques were 23:54:23 for Korean textbooks, and 58:37:5 for Japanese textbooks, respectively. This implies that English textbooks of both nations placed emphasis on implicit FonF, with the purpose of not disturbing learners`` communication. However, no other three techniques (consciousness-raising, input processing, and dictogloss) were found in textbooks of both nations and therefore, more consideration of the inclusion for the three techniques in the future textbooks will be suggested. Limitations and directions for the further research are discussed.
