최근 한국사회는 ‘갈등 사회’라고 할 만큼 다양한 갈등을 경험하고 있다. 이러한 갈등의 폭증현상은 갈등연구의 양적 팽창을 가져왔으며 특히, 갈등연구 대부분이 사례연구에 치중해 있다. 그러나 이러한 방법론적 편향은 사례연구에 내재하는 과학적 엄밀성 부족과 결합하여 갈등연구의 양적 증가에 비해 질적 발전은 더디다는 비판을 초래하는 주요인이 되었다. 이에 본 연구는 사례연구의 핵심인 갈등과정과 상호작용에 대한 탐색에 활용할 수 있는 표준화 된 갈등과정분석틀(conflict process analysis)을 개발하고 실제 공공갈등사례분석에 활용 례를 보여줌으로써 향후 공공갈등 연구의 질적 발전에 기여하고자 한다.

Nowadays, Korea has witnessed heavy increase of public conflict in a variety of fields. The phenomena has caused sudden rise of conflict researches, most of which used case research methods. However, such bias of research methods combined with the lack of scientific strictness inherent in a case research brought about strong criticism that qualitative development of conflict researches is slow in progress in spite of quantitative expansion of conflict researches. This article, therefore, tries to contribute to the progress of public conflict researches through the development of standardized conflict progress analysis in Korea. Furthermore, the conflict progress analysis is utilized to analyse a practical public conflict case.
