번역에서 가장 논란이 되고 고려할 중요 사안은 문화의 보편성과 특수성에 근거한 표현 간의 상관관계, 언어문화의 차이로 인해 발생하게 된 표현의 차 이, 어감의 차이 등이다. 번역에서 고려해야 할 것이 언어 문화적 차이라는 점 에 착안하여 문화 입각점이라는 용어를 제안하였다. 문화 입각점(立脚點, footing)이란 문화 차이 관점을 수용하고 문화 이해 공감이 이루어지는 지점을 의미한다. 관점은 어떤 대상을 제3의 대상으로 바라보는 것이라고 한다면 입 각점은 어떤 대상을 주체화 대상으로 바라보는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 혼자만 의 관점을 고수하는 것이 아니라 상대방의 관점을 이해하고 그 안에 공감을 전제로 한 것이 입각점이다. 번역가의 역할 중 하나는 많은 사람에게 타문화를 이해하고 수용하는 능력을 키워줘서 문화 입각점에 도달하게 하는 일일 것 이다. 번역가는 문화권을 초월해 독자에게 글의 내용 전반을 이해시키고 더 나아가 문화권 자체를 독자에게 이해시키는 수준으로 문화 입각점에 근거하 여 글을 번역하는 것이 번역가의 본분이며 역할이다. 국제화시대의 변화와 흐 름이 번역가의 역할 확장을 요구하고 있다.

The most significant and controversial issues in translation are the mutual relation between expressions based on cultural universality and specificity, differences in expression arising from the difference of language culture, and differences of connotation. Through this study, the term ‘cultural footing point’ was proposed, which is the point where cultural understanding and empathy reflects on the perspective of cultural difference. If a viewpoint is defined as watching the subject objectively, the cultural footing point can be defined as watching the subject as the target of subjectification. The cultural footing point is about understanding the other`s viewpoint with empathy and not holding on to one`s personal perspective. The translator`s duty isn`t just about translating literature by reflecting the differences of language and culture. One of the roles of a translator is to nurture the readers` ability to understand and accept different cultures so that they may reach the cultural footing point. Not only is it the translator`s duty to make the reader understand the overall text beyond cultural areas, but furthermore should be to translate the text in a way that the culture itself is conveyed and understood to the reader. Internationalization is expanding the role of translator.
