This study was conducted to test the mediating effect of selfobject needs between early maladaptive schemas and expectations about counseling to adolescents. Three hundred and four high school students(Incheon and Gyeonggi province) participated in this research. The collected data were processed by SPSS WIN 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The results of the study are as follows: First, early maladaptive schemas and selfobject needs were significantly positive, early maladaptive schemas and expectations about counseling were significantly negative, which means the higher level of early maladaptive schemas were related with the higher level of selfobject hunger and selfobject avoidance and the higher level of early maladaptive schemas were related with the lower level of expectations about counseling. Also the relation between selfobject hunger and expectations about counseling were positive and selfobject hunger led expectations about counseling. Second, the result of Structural Equation Modeling showed that the effect of early maladaptive schemas to expectations about counseling was fully mediated by selfobject needs. The SEM analysis result showed that early maladaptive schemas indirectly influenced expectations about counseling through selfobject needs in adolescents. These results imply that expectations about counseling and interpersonal relation can be influenced by selfobject experience in adolescents. Therefore, in order to help adolescents to recover from their interpersonal problems, counselor have to consider their selfobject needs and provide necessary selfobject experience. Finally, the limitation and the suggestions for further research were discussed.
