우리나라에서 부동산 값이 폭등한 2001년 이후부터 “어디에 사세요?”란 일상적인 안부 인사에 대해 스트레스를 느끼는 사람들이 늘고 있다. 이 말을 단지 안부로 받아들이는가 하면 그 차원을 넘어 심리적 위축을 야기하는 경제적 계급의 탐색 의미로 반응하는 경우가 나타나고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 사람들이 이러한 인사말에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 답하는지 그 주관적 인식체계를 발견하는데 있다. 연구 결과, 제1유형은 ‘정보적 기능-정직한 답변형’으로 그 질문을 단지 인사말로 받아들이고 있다. 제2유형은 ‘지위부여 기능-민감 반응형’으로 민감하게 계급파악 의도로 반응하여 정직과 소극적 거짓 답변의 경계를 넘나든다. 제3유형은 ‘지위부여 기능-거부, 위장형’으로 계급파악 의도에 심한 거부반응을 보이며 거짓 답변을 하고 있다. 그러나 각 유형은 일치항목이 없고 ‘단지 인사로 인식하는 유형’과 ‘계급파악 의도로 해석해 스트레스를 받는 유형’으로 나뉘어져 극단성이 심한 것으로 나타났다.

People feel increasingly uneasy about the normal greeting expression, “where do you live?” due to skyrocketing real estate prices since 2001 in Korea. Some accept the question as just a greeting, while others recognize it as an oppressive inquiry which triggers their psychological atrophy by identifying economic class. The purpose of this study is to find the answering types concerning the way how people recognize the greeting expressions. In this study three different typical types are extracted as a result of the research. Firstly, in ‘Imformative Function- honest answer’ type, respondents accepted the question as a literal greeting. Secondly, in ‘Status-conferral Function-sensitive response’ type, repliers answered straightforward or intentionally reacted with a false answer identifying the question as the method of class differentiation. Lastly, in ‘Status-conferral Function-rejective or camouflage answer’ type they responded with a false answer with severe rejection to the intention of class differentiation. Each type of match(consensus items), however matters little. It implies that all the items are extremely polarized either as just a casual greeting expression or as a stressful question with the recognition of different class grade.
