본 연구는 의료인의 신체 억제대 사용에 대한 주관적 인식 유형과 각 유형의 특성을 확인하여 임상실무현장의 신체 억제대 사용에 대한 기준을 마련하는데 기초자료를 제공하고자 수행하였다 . Q 방법론을 적용한 본 연구는 신체 억제대 적용경험이 있는 간호사 22명, 의사 9명의 총 31명을 P 표본으로 하여, 이들이 41개의 Q표본을 9점 척도의 Q분포도상에 강제 분포하도록 하였다. 수집된 자료는 pc-QUANAL program에 의한 주인자분석법(PCA)으로 처리하였다. 연구결과, 의료인의 신체 억제대 사용에 대한 태도는 4개 유형을 발견하였으며 이들 유형에 의해 설명된 전체 변량은 64.3%이었다. 의료인의 신체 억제대 사용에 대한 주관성은 신체 억제대의 사용은 꼭 필요하지만 신체적, 정신적 부작용을 모두 고려해야 한다는 ‘현실적 공감형’, 환자의 심리적 영역에 공감하고 감정이입이 되어 있어 가능한 신체 억제대를 적용하지 않거나 최소한으로 적용해야 한다는 ‘환자 감정이입형’, 신체 억제대의 적용은 환자와 의료인의 안전 및 보호역할에 중요하다는 확고한 목적의식을 가지고 있으며 신체적 부작용에 대한 감소방안을 마련해야 한다고 생각하는 ‘합리적 업무형’, 신체억제대의 사용은 부작용과 불편감을 감수하더라도 꼭 필요한 치료적 수단이며 설명이나 부작용감소를 위한 노력은 의미가 없다는 견해를 지닌 ‘신체 억제대 선호형’으로 확인되었다.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify on the attitudes toward the use of physical restraints among health care providers according to their values, beliefs, and attitudes using Q methodology. Methods: Thirty-one health care providers classified 41 selected Q-statements into 9 points standard. The obtained data were analyzed by using a pc-QUANAL program. Results: Principal Component Analysis identified 4 types of the attitudes toward the use of physical restraints among health care providers, and named by researcher. Type is ‘Realistic sympathy’, type is ‘Empathy Ⅰ Ⅱ on patients’, type III is ‘Rational task’, and type IV is ‘Restraints preference’. The findings of this study suggest that attitudes toward the use of physical restraints among health care providers should be understood for patients’ safety and dignity in medical circumstance. Conclusion: Based on these results, the directions for future research were discussed.
