이 논문에서는 안정된 토대로서의 주체를 가정하지 않고 행위성을 설명할 수 있음을 보이고자 한다. 버틀러의 수행성 개념을 통해 소위 말하는 ‘주체’란 행위의 원인이 아니라 행위를 통해 수행적으로 구성된 것임을 주장하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 2장에서 ‘주체’라는 개념이 갖는 허구성을 드러내고, 주체란행위를 고정시키기 위한 장소, 즉 주어 자리에 지나지 않는다는 것을 밝히고자 한다. 버틀러에 따르면, 의미화 작용에 따라 개인은 주어의 자리를 차지하는 주체가 된다. 이 때 의미화는 하나의 규제된 반복과정을 의미하며, 이러한 반복이 바로 수행성이다. 3장에서는 수행성 개념을 이해하기 위해, 오스틴이 제시한 수행문 개념과 부르디외가 제시한 아비투스 개념을 살펴볼 것이다. 그런데 수행문 개념과 아비투스 개념으로 수행성을 이해하게 되면, 저항적 행위의 가능성을 설명하기 어렵다는 문제가 있다. 버틀러는 데리다

This paper will show that an agency is explained without the subject as a stable foundation. With Butler’s concept of “performativity”, I would argue that the so-called “subject” is not cause of an act but constructed performatively through an act. In order to do it, I will expose that the subject is fictitious and then reveal that the subject is a place for fixing an act, the site of the subject in chapter 2. According to Butler, individuals come to be the subject who occupies the site of the subject by signification. Signification is a regulated process of repetition, this repetition is the very performativity. In order to understand performativity, I will see the performative offered by Austin and the habitus offered by Bourdieu. But when performativity is interpreted as the performative and habitus, we are confronted with a problem that is difficult to explain the possibility of the resistant act. Butler resolves the problem by citing Derrida. Because of the fail of the performative, for Derrida, is a condition of iterability of the performative. Furthermore, Butler believes that political possibilities are found in the fail of the performative. Last chapter deals with political possibilities of the performative.
