One of the characters of Cheonsuseok, Lee Cho-hye takes a leading role in the problematic narrative of the work, plays a central role in the narrative to the last among the main characters, and is connected to them in a close, narrative fashion, which allows her to be defined as the female protagonist of the work. When reviewing its content with her at the center, it becomes important to fulfill diverse individual desires rather than the meanings emphasized in previous studies including Confucian meanings, Taoist meanings, transcendent meanings, heroism, reflection of history, social phenomena and the reflection of reality. As her first relationship with Wi Bo-hyeong goes wrong, her life becomes studded with making a relationship with men through obscene acts or adultery. Her adulterous relationships are established through the conflicts caused by her personal penetration into the life of Wi Bo-hyeong in her relationship with him, through her temptation and the emperor``s active acceptance of it in her relationship with him, and through the misunderstanding and means of attaining one``s goals in her relationship with Gan Ok-ji. As such, her one-sided and arbitrary obscene acts conducted in her relationships with married men based on sexual desire and passion for love play a critical role of leading the entire work along with her obscene acts to fulfill simple sexual desire and personal goals. Especially the end of the work presents Lee Cho-hye whose body and mind become devastated due to her unfulfilled love of excessive intensity. As her ways of pursuing love get bumped against, broken and distorted by the old concepts, she concentrates her energy on lust for power and revenge. Consequently, it leads to the destruction of her inner world, her death, and extreme destruction of her body. She may show the true aspects of human beings not tamed by ethics and morality and subjected to institution and power.
