본 연구는 『그 섬에 가고 싶다』(제주시, 2013)에 나타난 시조시인이 지닌 제주도에 대한 심상 의미에 대한 연구이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 지리적 심상 의미, 사회적 심상 의미, 개인적 의미로 나누어 제주도에 나타난 심상 의미를 살펴보았다. 지리적 심상 의미의 경우, 제주도가 지닌 심상 의미는 제주라는 공간을 순수하고 자연 그대로 인식하고 그것에 의미를 부여하는 것이다. 그리고 여기에다 시인 자신의 감정을 더하여 제주도가 지닌 서정적 모습을 시로 형상화한다. 한편, 사회적 심상 의미는 제주도와 관련한 사회적, 역사적, 문화적 맥락에 대한 의미 부여이며 작가는 이를 통해 제주도라는 공간(장소)이 지닌 제주라는 정체성을 이야기한다. 그리고 다른 지역과의 변별적 모습을 보여준다. 또한, 개인적 심상 의미는 ‘그리움의 공간, 예찬의 공간, 성찰의 공간’이라는 의미를 부여한다. 이러한 심상 의미는 물론 제주도에서 느끼는 다른 사람들 혹은 독자와 일치하는 심상 의미일 수도 있지만, 작가가 지닌 제주도에서 느끼는 작가 고유의 의미 부여이다. 결국 공간에는 다양한 심상 의미가 존재한다. 그 의미는 시인이 시 쓰기를 위한 하나의 소재가 되기도 하고, 형성화하는 데 필요한 요소가 되기도 한다. 따라서 심상 지리학적 측면에서 공간이 지닌 심상 의미 분석은 자연환경 또는 인문 환경을 형상화하기 위한 기초 작업이라 할 수 있다. 또한, 심상 지리학적 측면에서 심상 의미는 문학 작품이 특정한 시간과 장소에서의 사람들이 가지고 있는 지적인 관심을 표현할 때 문학적 가치를 지닌다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 『그 섬에 가고 싶다』(제주시, 2013)를 통해 나타나는 현대 시조시인의 공간(장소)에 대한 심상 의미 부여와 그것을 토대로 한 작품의 형상화 작업은 문학의 영역에서 의미가 있다.

This study analyzed the meaning of the imagery of Jeju-do exhibited in modern sijo. As the Geographical meaning, Jeju-do``s imagery recognizes the space called Jeju as innocent and nature itself. In addition, the lyrical landscape of Jeju-do is embodied into poems by adding the poet``s own feelings. As the Social meaning, there is meaning grant about society history culture veins regarding Jeju-do. Author through this spaces called Jeju-do identity. And it show other areas and discriminate. As the Individual meaning, Jeju-do``s imagery is the space of yearning, pain, reconciliation, praise, and introspection. This meaning of imagery provides the poet``s own meaning that he/she feels in Jeju-do, and can be a simplified and concentrated essential meaning by-- binding special spaces. In the relationship of "author - work - reader", authors and readers communicate each other through works and form communal meanings. This becomes the third meaning of the imagery of Jeju-do. Therefore, readers who read a poet``s work come to empathize with its meaning as if they experienced it themselves. Therefore, from an imagery-geographic perspective, an analysis of the meaning of the imagery of spaces can be a basic task to create a natural or human environment. In addition, the provision of the meaning of imagery regarding the spaces of modern sijo poets and the embodiment of poetic works based on this task provide the meaning of imagery about the space called Jeju-do and have literary values amid the process.
