참여 경험을 통해 무엇을 느끼게 되었는지를 묻고, 이를 통해서 중등교육 이후 교육프로그램의 필요성에 대해 고찰한 것이다. K대학의 중등교육이후 교육 프로그램에 참여한 발달장애학생들을 대상으로 인터뷰를 실시하여 내용을 분석한 결과 최종적으로 네 가지 주제를 도출하였다. 도출된 주제는 재미있는 수업과 수업집중에 대한 욕구, 스스로 하는 선택과 결정, 즐거운 타인과의 교류, 의미 있는 인턴십이었다. 학생들은 수업에서 재미를 느꼈고, 이 때문에 더 열중하고 싶다는 의욕들을 보였다. 또 고등학교와는 다르게 스스로 해결해야 하는 상황을 경험하는 것에 대해 즐거워했다. 또한 학생들은 친구들과의 교류를 통해서도 기쁨을 느낀다고도 했다. 이들은 특히 인턴십 프로그램에서 사람들과의 만나는 것을 즐거워했고, 더 많은 경험을 하고 싶어 했다. 위와 같은 연구 결과는 중등교육 이후 교육 프로그램이 학생들에게 매우 의미 있는 경험이었음을 보여준다. 중등교육 이후 교육 프로그램은 직업 선택 기회 확대라는 면에 서도 중요한 역할을 하지만 그보다 자율적이고 다양한 경험의 기회를 제공한다는 점에서 발달장애 학생들에게 더 의미가 있었던 것으로 보여 진다. 그러므로 발달장애학생들에게 이러한 경험을 할 수 있는 기회들이 확대될 수 있도록 노력과 지원이 필요하다.
The purpose of this study is to explore what perceptions of students at a postsecondary education program for individuals with developmental disabilities. This is a qualitative research study for which 8 students with developmental disabilities. They have been interviewed. Collected interview data has been analyzed according to the purpose of the study. The results of this study indicates that enjoyment for learning, self choices, enjoyment of interaction with friends and meaningful internship. Results of this study indicate that students in a post-secondary program were very motivated to learn and held a positive outlook for their career options upon completion of the program. Most of them enjoyed learning various academic subjects and interacting with other students and professors much more than they did prior to post-secondary education. They found their internship experiences at community vocational settings meaningful and rewarding. They also emphasized the importance of a supportive environment with optimal assistance for their learning and vocational training. Findings shed lights on developing, modifying, and implementing postsecondary educational and vocational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. These findings suggest that it is important for people with developmental disabilities to have opportunities to explore their talents and to be support in post-seconday program.
