본 연구는 그림책을 활용한 총체적 언어중재가 지적장애아동의 수용어휘 및 표현어휘에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 전라북도에 위치한 P특수학교에 재학 중인 초등학교 지적장애 아동 3명이다. 본 연구는 총 18∼27회기로 수행되었으며 매회 40분씩 그림책을 활용한 총체적 언어활동으로 중재를 하였다. 연구 설계는 중다 간헐 기초선 설계를 사용하여 아동별 수용어휘와 표현어휘의 변화를 표와 그래프로 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 그림책을 활용한 총체적 언어중재가 수용어휘에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 그림책을 활용한 총체적 언어중재가 표현어휘에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 그림책을 활용한 총체적 언어중재가 지적장애아동들의 다양한 의사소통기술에 긍정적 영향을 줄 수 있는 중재방법이라고 생각된다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of holistic language activity by the use of picture books on receptive and expressive vocabulary for children with intellectual disabilities. The subjects in this study were three selected school children with intellectual disabilities in a special school located in North Jeolla Province. This study was implemented in 18∼27 sessions, 40 minutes each, by utilizing the holistic language activity by the picture books. The multiple probe design was applied, and the changes in their receptive and expressive vocabularies were shown in graphs and tables. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, the holistic language activity by the picture books exerted a positive influence on receptive vocabulary. Second, the holistic language activity by the picture books exerted a positive influence on expressive vocabulary. Therefore, the holistic language activity by picture books seems to be one of the effective methods to have a positive impact on the communicative skills for children with intellectual disabilities.
