This paper aims proving that we can discover a hybrid between traditional elements and modern elements in Kim, So-woel``s poems. He created a poetic monologue by the specific narrator in the specific utterance situation. A similar case is found in the Chinese ancient poetry. There are several differences between Kim, So-woel``s poems and Chinese ancient poetry. The former is written by spoken language while the latter is written by literary language. That is the most important difference. It is difficult for a poet to utilize the utterance situation in Chinese ancient poem because he has to write by literary language. He mainly depends on the method of abridgment and suggestion. Utilizing the utterance situation has two availability. A poet can express his thought delicately and general readership could comprehend deeply. Kim, So-woel``s major works are prime examples of a hybrid of traditional and modern in this regard.
