Nowadays various regional dialects have been disappearing faster than we can imagine. At this point what we can do best is to devise some measures stopping or delaying their disappearance. But this is in no way easy task. Even though devising the proper measures, we can not but investigate and record dialects preparing for the worst. This paper has been written to consider some methods to foster the local basis of language and culture for dialectal research with these circumstances in mind. The author experienced forming the corporation of Allied Association for Kyungnam Dialect in 2012, which was organized for the purpose of investigating and studying and preserving Kyungnam dialects. Therefore, he made efforts to hit the target with this line of experience. In chapter 2, the author introduced the corporation of Allied Association for Kyungnam Dialect and made some brief comments on the related works. In chapter 3, he gave a detailed account of two preliminary dialectal investigations. What was mainly dealt with here are making questionnaires, the results of dialect investigations, and their evaluation. The 4th chapter was allotted to the author’s viewpoint to foster the local basis of language and culture for the investigation of dialects. What he emphasized in this chapter with combined conclusion are the following four points. First, it is necessary for orthodox scholars and civil researcher to organize group for collaborating together in investigation and study of dialects. Second, government or local government should give financial support. Third, it is very important that members of organized groups promote friendship. Fourth, the space, especially cyber-space including internet, for members to share their data with one another, is required.
