21세기는 그야말로 넘쳐나는 병의 시대라고 해도 과언이 아닐 것 같다. 병을 서술하는 용어를 살펴보면 항상 호전적이며 군사적이다. 이것은 우리가 병을 대하는 태도와 관련이 있다. 우리는 일반적으로 병을 하나의 투쟁의 대상 혹은 강력한 적으로 생각하기 때문이다. 인간은 살아있는 한 병과 함께 살아간다. 본 연구는 병의 긍정성을 문학의 관점에서 살펴봄으로써 우리가 가지고 있는 일반적인 병의 부정성을 다시 한 번 되돌아 보는 기회를 갖게 한다. 1장은 서론으로서 사회문화적 현상으로서의 병을 말한다. 2장에서는 문학에서의 병의 의미, 은유로서의 병을 고찰한다. 3장에서는 병의 긍정성의 예로 토마스 만과 니체를 들어 고찰한다. 과거에 그리스인들이 자신들의 도서관을 “영혼의 의학”으로 여겼던 시대가 존재했듯 문학이“영혼의 의학”이 될 수 있는 시대가 도래하길 바라며 조지훈의 시 「병에게」 를 끝으로 원고를 마무리 한다.

Looking at the terms that describe illness, they are always aggressive and militarily. This is related to the attitude we have towards illness, because we usually think of an illness as a powerful enemy in the struggle. The purpose of this study was to point out that illnesses are not always negative in literature. There is no person in this world who has never been sick in his life: We are living with illness. The aim of this study is to consider the concept of illness from a literary perspective. In Chapter 1, illness is described as a social, cultural phenomenon. In Chapter 2, the meaning of illness in literature and illness as a metaphor are discussed. In Chapter 3, the positivity of illness is described in terms of Nietzsche and Thomas Mann. Finally, I quote a poem by Cho Ji Hun 「To the Illness」.
