이 연구는 우리사회를 위협하는 위험요인인 불안정 노동-고용 불안정, 소득 불안정, 사회보장 불안정-을 업종별 시장구조와 그 안에서 발생하는 비정규 고용의 맥락에서 설명하려는 것이다. 제조업에서 서비스업으로 산업의 중심이 이동하고 신자유주의 정책에 따른 고용 유연화가 심화되면서, 정규직 고용에 기초한 기존의 사회보장 체계는 심각한 도전에 직면하였다. 사회보험 미가입은 사용자와 근로자의 개인적 선택처럼 보이지만, 그 이면에는 비정규직화에 따른 불안정 노동의 확산이 자리하고 있다. 이 연구는 분석사회학의 메커니즘 분석에 기초하여, 이윤을 늘리려는 사용자의 선호와 비정규직으로 근로자를 고용하는 사용자의 행위가 시장구조와 어떻게 연관되어 있는지 설명하였다. 이때 주목한 변수는 업종이다. 사용자의 선호와 행위는 업종에 따라 독특하게 형성된 시장구조에 기초해 있다. 불안정 노동의 대표적 업종인 숙박 및 음식점업과 도매 및 소매업에 종사하는 사용자 및 근로자를 면접하여 사회보장 배제의 메커니즘을 분석하였으며, 연구 결과에 따른 제언을 첨언하였다.

The purpose of this research is to explain the reasons for precarious work in relation to labor market structures by industry. As the base of economy shifted from manufacturing to service industry and as the employment flexibility was reinforced, the existing social security system based on standard employment has faced challenge. Whether joining social insurance or not seems like a personal choice. However, the spread of precarious work caused by non-standard employment has influenced the choice. This research introduces how employer`s preference in increasing profits and their employing of non-standard workers are related to market structures with focus on the types of industry, based on the causal mechanism-based approach by analytical sociology. The employer`s preference and action of employing are largely affected by unique market structures of each business. Workers and employers participating in accommodation and food service activities, wholesale and retail trade which are the two examples of precarious work, are interviewed to analyze the mechanism in the social security exclusion. The implication resulted from the conclusion are added.
