이 연구는 한국스포츠사회학의 지식체를 어떻게 발전시킬 것인가를 고민하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위한 방법론으로서 본 연구는 ‘이론화(theorization)’를 제안한다. 지식의 발전은 곧 이론의 발전임을 전제로, 이 연구는 먼저 이론이 무엇인지를 의미론적으로 약술하였다. 여기에 덧붙여, 이 이론의 다양한 그림을 선행연구결과를 빌려 설명하였다. 본론으로 들어가 스포츠사회학의 지적 발전이 어떤 방식으로 이루어질지를 발견의 맥락과 검증의 맥락으로 나누어 살펴보면서 이들 맥락이 실제 학술지 연구물로 어떻게 반영되었는가를 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 과거 검증의 맥락으로만 이루어지던 연구가 이제는 발견의 맥락과 균형을 이루었음을 발견할 수 있었다. 이와 더불어 이 연구는 발견(질적연구)과 검증(양적연구)의 맥락에서 이루어졌던 한국스포츠사회학 연구물의 문제를 ‘이론으로 가지 않는 발견과 이론에서 오지 않는 검증’으로 판단하며 비판하였다. 이를 평가하기 위한 각 맥락별 기준을 제시하면서, 이 연구는 학회 구성원이 앞으로 이론화와 주제화의 노력에 힘써야 함을 제시으로 건의하였다.
This article aims at examining how we can develop body of knowledge on sociology of sport in Korea. For this, the author suggested ‘theorizing’ as a principal methodology. Presupposing that knowledge development equals to theoretical development in its representation, this study sketched what theories exactly mean in the contexts of research processes and overall disciplines. With a summary of theories, various images the theories have in them were explained more closely with a profound explanation on previous study. In the main part of the study, this article divided aspects of knowledge development into two contexts, a discovery context and a justification one, for searching how these contexts have been reflected into the research articles in the Journal of Korean Society for Sociology of Sport. We could assure that while at the beginning of the journal the research paradigm was inclined to be done as a justification context, nowadays the trend was in the balanced condition with many research to be done within a discovery context. Although this balanced trend is very encouraging in developing body of knowledge, the author criticized the qualitative trend of those research as ‘a discovery context not heading for theories, a justification context not drawn from the theories.’ For this trend to be fixed, this article suggested that all members of an academic community should try to theorize and thematize for developing the sociological knowledge for sports in Korean-contexts, proposing a norm by which we are able to evaluate the quality of research articles.
