In Ende von Etwas one member of the third generation, the granddaughter, recalls and reconstructs a part of the life of the first generation, her grandmother, by means of storytelling. The grandmother, a war generation, who had to sacrifice her own life in front of the war as a social occurrence and the family as a closed system, suffered from Alzheimer``s disease in her latter years, set her own house on fire and died. But the description of her death as a dancing in the fire implies that at the end of the life she became a free person. In the course of recollection, reconstruction, and storytelling where fiction and fact mingle together the granddaughter experiences moments of sympathy and identification with her grandmothers life. And the reader is also made into a careful listener of the story which leads him or her to the same sympathy and understanding. Hunter-Tompson-Musik is a story about a brief encounter between Hunter, an old isolated man waiting for his death in a shabby hotel in New York, and a young girl on a trip. Hunter feels a stirring of an erotic love for her but it doesn``t come about. Yet the possibility of communication is not gone completely, and in this case music provides the connecting line. Hunter gives her an audio cassette, his all, and the girl leaves with it. These two stories show exemplary how the communication blockage between the first and the second generation is attempted to be dissolved by the third generation. Their ways of communication, recollection, storytelling, and music, open up new possibilities of sympathy and understanding between the older and the younger generation.
