본 연구는 전문상담교사의 직업 적응과정과 이 과정에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 탐색하고 이해하는데 그 목적이 있다. 구체적인 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전문상담교사의 직업 적응과정은 어떠한가? 둘째, 전문상담교사 직업 적응과정에 영향을 미치는 요인은 무엇인가? 이와 같은 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 학교 근무경력 만 2년 이상의 전문상담교사 15명을 대상으로 개별 면담을 실시하고 근거이론 접근방법(Strauss & Corbin, 1990, 1998)의 주요 절차를 활용하여 결과를 분석하였다. 근거자료를 분석한 결과 140개의 개념, 59개의 하위범주, 그리고 23개의 범주가 나타났고 전문상담교사 직업 적응과정에 대한 패러다임 모형이 도출되었다. 전문상담교사가 경험하는 ‘현상’은 ‘이상과현실의 불일치’였으며 이러한 현상을 해결하는 과정에 영향을 미치는 다양한 조건들과 맥락, 작용/상호작용 그리고, 결과에 해당하는 범주가 정리되었다. 본 연구결과는 현직 전문상담교사의 직업 적응과정과 직업 정체성을 이해하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하였다는 의의를 지닌다.

The purpose of this study was to explore the adjustment process of professional school counselor and the factors affecting the adjustment process. The detailed research questions of the study are as follows. First, what kind of process did the professional school counselor go through to get adjusted to the school? Second, what are the factors that are influential in the process of the professional school counselor``s adjustment to the school? To accomplish this purpose, 15 professional incumbent school counselors who have more than 2 years of experience in the school were individually interviewed. The data analysis was based on Grounded theory(Strauss & Corbin, 1990, 1998). Through the data analysis, 140 concepts, 59 subcategories and 23 categories were found, and a paradigm was extracted. Phenomenon which participants experienced were ‘the discrepancy between ideal and reality’. And the various conditions that affect the process of solving such a phenomenon, action/interaction and the result were categorized. The results of this study provided a basis for understanding the professional identity and adjustment process of professional school counselor.
