본 연구는 1990년대 이후 한국으로 이주한 외국인들 가운데 결혼이주여성의 정체성 변화를 고찰하였다. 결혼이주여성에 초점을 맞춘 이유는 이들의 정체성, 즉 자아와 소속감이 자신의 가족뿐만 아니라 친정 가족, 로컬(이웃) 등에 긍정적으로 혹은 부정적으로 영향을 줄 것으로 예상되기 때문이다. 결혼이주여성의 정체성 변화를 체계적으로 이해할 개념적 틀은 제3의 공간과 전이성에 근거하고 있있다. 결혼이주여성은 제3의 공간에서 이루어지는 전이성 체험을 통해서 자신의 정체성을 변화시킬 것이다. 변화된 정체성은 결혼이주여성의 모국과 한국 모두에 속하지 않는 새로운 특성을 보일지는 논리적으로 혹은 선험적으로 예측할 수 없고, 특정 맥락 속에서 이루어지는 자신들의 능동적 행위에 의해 결정될 것이다. 제시된 개념적 틀은 대구광역시와 구미시에 거주하는 결혼이주여성이 자신의 삶을 구술한 자료를 분석하는데 활용되었다. 일상적 삶의 공간인 가정과 로컬 그리고 제도와 이념이 작동하는 국가에서 이루어지는 결혼이주여성의 정체성 변화는 제3의 공간과 전이성으로 고찰되었다. 전체적으로 볼 때, 결혼이주여성의 정체성은 맥락에 따라 복잡하게 변화하였고, 이는 이념, 언어, 관습, 음식, 자녀 양육, 인간관계 등을 매개로 이루어졌다.

This study has analyzed the change of married immigrant women`s identity. The reason of choosing married immigrant women among different types of immigrants coming in South Korea is for their identity defined as self consciousness or belonging to influence on their family as well as their parents and residential local negatively or positively. To understand married immigrant women`s identity systematically, a conceptual framework is made based on the ``third space and liminality.`` Married immigrant women`s fluid and hybrid identity is produced through their liminal experience in the third space. Such an identity cannot be predicted logically or a prior whether it has a new characteristic not included both in their motherland and Korea or not. It will be decided by married immigrant women`s positive actions implemented under a specific context. The change of married immigrant women`s identity is investigated through the third space and liminality at a home and local as a living space and at a nation of implementing law and ideology. As a general, it depends on a context and is implemented through the media such as language, custom, food, and children education.
