본 연구의 목적은 사회복지의 핵심 가치의 원불교 교리적 접근을 통해 원불교사회복지의 이념을 재조명하는데 있다. 즉, 사회복지의 이념적 핵심 가치를 원불교 교리사상에서 찾아보고자 하였다. 사회복지의 원리를 원불교 교리에서 추출해 내는 작업이 원불교사회복지가 가장 먼저 해야 하고 중요하게 여겨야 할 일이라는 판단에서다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 먼저, 사회복지의 관점에서 원불교가 인간을 어떻게 이해하고 있는가를 살펴보았다. 그리고 원불교사회복지의 이념에 대한 선행연구를 검토 한 후, 필자 나름대로의 원불교사회복지 이념을 재조명하였다. 원불교사회복지가 추구하는 기본적인 방향과 궁극적인 가치 및 신념 체계는 단정지어 규정할 수 없으며, 가능한 한 많이 도출해 내는 작업이 중요하다는 점을 기본전제로 밝혀두고, 원불교사회복지의 이념으로 인간의 존엄성, 인간 평등주의, 보은(報恩)사상, 자리이타주의, 무아봉공의 다섯 가지를 제시하였다. 원불교사회복지의 이념들은 서로 독립적으로 존재하는 것이 아니라 상호 관련되어 있다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is shedding new light on social welfare ideologies of Won-Buddhism through approaching Won-Buddhism creed that is main value of social welfare. In other words, this study search for ideological main value of social welfare through the Won-Buddhism creed. Because working to extract the principle of social welfare in the Won-Buddhism is the most important thing and the first thing that Won-Buddhism social welfare have to do. To achieve this purpose, first of all, this study inspect how Won-Buddhism understand the human from the point of view of social welfare. And after considering previous research about social welfare ideologies of Won-Buddhism, the present this writer shed new light on social welfare ideologies of Won-Buddhism in one``s own way. Won-Buddhism social welfare is the final value and belief system of the basic direction to pursue is not possible to define with decided. Therefore, in this study, it is the basic premise that work that many draw as much as possible the idea of Won-Buddhism social welfare is important. On the basis of these assumptions, in this study, as the social welfare ideologies of Won-Buddhism, it presented five of human dignity, human egalitarianism, idea of repay the fourfold graces, benefiting both oneself and others, the idea of selfless service to the public.
