한국의 문화원형으로 자리 잡은 “춘향 이야기”는 여러 가지 예술 형식으로 거듭 재탄생되고 있다. 소설 영역에서 이해조의 『옥중화』, 최남선의 『고본 춘향전』,이광수의 『일설 춘향전』, 안수길의 「이런 춘향」, 최인훈의 「춘향뎐」, 임철우의 「옥중가」, 김주영의 『외설 춘향전』에 이어 한국 신인작가 용현중의 장편소설 『백설춘향전』과 중국 조선족 작가 김인순의 『춘향』이 “춘양 이야기”의 현대적 변용에 가담하였다. 『백설춘향전』은 춘향 이야기와 백설 공주 이야기, 장옥정·최숙빈에 관한 궁중비화를 절묘하게 결합하여 춘향이 궁중 의녀로, 왕의 여인으로 거듭나는 새로운 이야기를 탄생시켰고 『춘향』은 신비롭고 환상적인 분위기 속에서 여인의 유토피아-향사에서 절대 권력을 행사하는 향부인과 속세에 물젖지 않은 춘향의 초월적인 삶을 그렸다. 두 작품은 각각 남성시각과 여성시각에 입각하여 춘향의 열녀 이미지를 벗기고 여성의식이 뚜렷한 정체성을 획득한 여성으로 재탄생 시킴과 동시에 이몽룡과 변학도의 인물성격 및 기능을 재구성하고 주변 인물들에 대한 재조명과 새로운 설정을 통해 이야기의 새로운 전개를 담보하였다. 두 작품은 한중 양국의 서로 다른 상상력과 미학적 추구를 바탕으로 『춘향전』에 대한 해체와 재구성을 통한 경전의 적극적인 생산적 수용을 실현하였다.
The Chunhyang story which is the archetype of the Korean culture has been reproduced into various artistic forms. Speaking of the reproduction in the form of short stories and novels, there are Lee Hae-jo``s The flower in prison, Choi Nam-seon``s The ancient version of Chunhyangjeon, Lee Gwang-su``s One saying of Chunhyangjeon, Ann Su-gil``s Such a Chunhyang, Choi In-hun``s Chunhyangdyeon, Lym Cheol-u``s The song sung in prison, and Gim Ju-yeong``s Outside saying of Chunhyangjeon. Recently, a budding writer Yong Hyeon-jung``s The Snow White Chunhyang and Korean Chinese writer Jin Renshun``s Chunhyang have joined the process. The Snow White Chunhyang created a brand new story of a girl growing into a female doctor and the lover of the King, combining the Chunhyang story with the story of The Snow White and behind-the-scenes story of Jang Ok-jung and Choi Sukbin. Chunhyang portrayed the transcendent lives of Lady Xiang who has the super power and Chunhyang who is isolated from the secular society in the women``s Utopia mysteriously and fantasticly. The two works uncovered the virtuous image of Chunhyang，recreated the character into an independent woman who has a clear self-identification, reshaped the characteristics of Lee Mong-rong and Byeon Hak-tto, reviewed the outsiders and reorganized the function of them to create a new story from a male perspective and female one. The reproductive acceptance of the two works is based on different imagination and aesthetic pursuit of different cultures the authors belong to.
